Harmony Public Schools has been a proud member of the El Paso community for more than 13 years.
Harmony opened Harmony Science Academy – its first school in El Paso and in West Texas overall – in the Fall of 2006. At the time, it was the school system’s only campus west of of San Antonio.
The school system quickly expanded, however, and today serves three campuses in El Paso after opening Harmony School of Innovation-El Paso in 2009 and Harmony School of Excellence-El Paso in 2016. Soon, the Harmony School of Science-El Paso will open for the 2020-2021 school year on the city’s east side.
Harmony has been widely-recognized for its positive impact on students and the community since its earliest days in El Paso.
In 2019 alone, Harmony schools in El Paso have been recognized be the TEA, Newsweek, and U.S. News and World Report for its family-focused campus culture and consistent academic achievement.
Here are some of Harmony’s recent accomplishments in El Paso so far in 2019:
- TEA “A” Rated District – Harmony Science Academy (El Paso District)
- TEA “A” Rated Campus – Harmony Science Academy
- TEA “B” Rated Campus – Harmony School of Excellence
- TEA “B” Rated Campus – Harmony School of Innovation
- Newsweek Top STEM High School for 2020 – Harmony Science Academy

Women Who Choose CS – What Really Matters
Recognized for Closing the Gender Gap in AP Computer Science Principles
EL PASO (Feb. 4, 2020): Harmony Science Academy – El Pasohas earned the College Board AP® Computer Science Female Diversity Award for achieving high female representation in AP Computer Science Principles.
Out of the 20,000 institutions that offer AP courses, 818 achieved this rare distinction for the 2018-2019 school year. In 2019, Harmony was one of 639 recognized in the category of AP Computer Science Principles
“We’re proud to see the creativity, commitment, and enthusiasm our female students have demonstrated in their study of AP Computer Science Principles,” said Mr. Turel. “As educators and administrators, we believe a STEM education plays a critical role in fostering a lifelong relationship with learning and setting our female students on a path to success in a 21st Century workforce.”
Schools receiving the AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award have achieved either 50% or higher female representation in either or both of the AP computer science courses, or the percentage of female computer science examinees meets or exceeds that of the school’s female population.
“Harmony is empowering young women to see themselves as creators, innovators, and problem-solvers,” said Stefanie Sanford, College Board global policy chief. “We hope to see even more high schools inspire female students to harness the potential of an AP computer science education.”
Providing female students with access to computer science courses is necessary to ensuring gender parity in high-paying technology jobs and to drive innovation, creativity, and competition. A 2014 Google study found that women are more likely to pursue computer science if they are given the opportunity to explore it in high school.

Harmony Public Schools believes each student can achieve their own unique, full potential through a caring and collaborative academic environment that emphasizes personalized learning and innovative instructional methods.
WHAT MAKES HARMONY DIFFERENT
Engaging Education: Our project-based learning engages critical thinking skills and makes learning fun with hands-on activities that educate and excite.
Skills for Tomorrow: Our curriculum has been recognized by the TEA & others for providing students the STEM skills they need for the in-demand jobs of the future.
College Ready: Harmony has a 100% college acceptance rate, and almost two-thirds of our students are the first in their families ever to attend college.
COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Does Harmony Public Schools charge tuition to attend?
Absolutely not. Harmony is a tuition-free, Texas public charter school. We believe every student deserves the opportunity to attend a high-quality public school that fits their individual needs regardless of income.
Who is eligible to attend Harmony Public Schools?
All children residing in a Harmony school’s geographic boundary who meet registration requirements are eligible to attend. Unlike most other schools, though, Harmony’s geographic boundaries are much wider and generally include the entire community in which the school resides, meaning that all students in the area – regardless of neighborhood or family income level – have the same opportunity to attend a high-quality Harmony school.
What documents do I need to apply?
No documents are needed just to apply. However, if your child is selected for enrollment during the lottery process, you will need to provide a few basic documents that verify your child’s identity and home address.
I have a child in Harmony already, and would like to enroll their sibling for the first time. Do I still need to apply?
Yes. Siblings of current Harmony students still need to apply, but are given priority status if a campus lottery is needed.
